Información sobre este vino:
Etna Rosso Prephylloxera ‘La Vigna di Don Peppino’ Calderara Sottana is a red wine aged by the Tenuta delle Terre Nere winery, one of the most prestigious in Sicily, Italy. This wine is made from Nerello Mascalese vines that have survived phylloxera, with over 140 years of age, giving it exceptional singularity and depth. The grapes come from a plot of approximately four hectares in Calderara Sottana, located on the north slope of Mount Etna, at an altitude of 650 metres above sea level. The volcanic soil, made up of pumice stone mixed with basalt and traces of ash, gives the wine a distinctive minerality that reflects the unique terroir of the region.
The winemaking is carried out in a traditional way, with controlled fermentation in stainless-steel tanks, followed by ageing in oak barrels for 15 to 18 months. This process allows the wine to develop notable complexity and elegance, while preserving the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir. Annual production is limited, with fewer than 5,000 bottles per year, making it a rare gem coveted by connoisseurs.
In the glass, the wine has an intense ruby-red color with garnet highlights, indicating its depth and concentration. On the nose, it offers aromatic complexity that evokes notes of wild red fruits, sweet spices, dried herbs, and subtle smoky nuances, reflecting the influence of the volcanic soil and oak ageing. On the palate, it is structured and elegant, with fine, well-integrated tannins that give a velvety feel. The balanced acidity and the long, mineral finish confirm its quality and ageing potential.
This wine is ideal for pairing with game dishes, grilled red meats, aged cheeses, and truffle dishes. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius to fully appreciate its organoleptic qualities. With an alcohol content of 14.5% vol., Etna Rosso Prephylloxera ‘La Vigna di Don Peppino’ Calderara Sottana is a sublime expression of the Etna terroir, offering a unique and memorable sensory experience.
